Modeling Spectral and Bidirectional Soil Reflectance
نویسندگان
چکیده
SOILSPECT is a radiative transfer model, derived from Hapke's model, that represents the optical properties of soil from 450 nm to 2450 nm. The spectral and bidirectional reflectance of 26 soils was measured in the laboratory both with a field spectroradiometer (1000 narrow wavebands from 450 nm to 2450 nm) and a radiometer simulating TM channels (the five TM2, TM3, TM4, TM5, and TM7 broad bands). The input parameters of the model [single scattering albedo w, phase function P(g,g'), and variable characteristic of the soil roughness h] were fitted to these observations. We show that the single scattering albedo is only dependent on wavelength and on soil humidity; the other parameters depend mainly on surface conditions.

Inversion of a soil bidirectional reflectance model for use with vegetation reflectance models
The need for anisotropic soil reflectance in canopy reflectance modeling is assessed for different sampling and canopy conditions. Based on the results for grasslands, a soil model is inverted with ground-based radiometer data from the First International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project (ISLSCP) Field Experiment (FIFE). A general solution applicable over different spectral bands, sol...
متن کاملNormalization of Sun/View Angle Effects Using Spectral Albedo-Based Vegetation Indices
C u r r e n t vegetation indices are normally computed with directional spectral reflectances and are subjected to many external perturbations such as soil background variations, atmospheric conditions, geometric registration, and especially sensor viewing geometry. Subsequent use of these indices to estimate vegetation amounts would result in substantial uncertainties. To reduce the uncertaint...
متن کاملThe Bidirectional Reflectance of Apollo
Introduction: Accurate models of the lunar thermal and illumination environment require a realistic treatment of scattered radiation at high incidence and emission angles. It has long been appreciated that the bidirectional reflectance of lunar soil is anisotropic [1], yet most lunar thermal models still assume that scattered radiation is isotropic. We recently measured the bidirectional reflec...
متن کاملMapping spatial variability of soil salinity in a coastal area located in an arid environment using geostatistical and correlation methods based on the satellite data
Saline lakes can increase the soil and water salinity of the coastal areas. The main aim of this study is to distinguish the characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, analyze the statistical relationship between soil EC and characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, and to map soil salinity east of the Maharloo Lake. The correlation between field measurements ...
